As part of a city-wide series of collaborative installations entitled Metro Poles: Art in Action 9 to 5 was a participatory installation created at the Chinatown Manpower Project, a non-profit office space where recent immigrants receive assistance in acclimating to life in the United States. I created a series of window dioramas out of cardboard boxes that I found on the street in Chinatown. To counter the minimalist atmosphere of the cubicle office, I crafted an alternate environment out of found objects and local plant life, which I transplanted inside the boxes. Office workers and visitors were invited to water and care for the plants inside each box over a period of 6 weeks.
