GOWANUS VOYAGE
A public art event & gallery installation
July 2013 – present

In July 2013, The Newtown Creek Armada and Polytechnic Institute of New York University’s Brooklyn Atlantis joined forces to create GOWANUS VOYAGE for the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance’s City of Water Day. This interactive public boat pond on the Gowanus Canal hosted over 150 visitors, who explored above and below the surface of this historic waterway by piloting miniature remote control boats and aquatic robots equipped with video cameras and environmental sensors. Gowanus Voyage was presented with the support of the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club at their boat launch in Gowanus, Brooklyn.

In September 2013, the exhibit GOWANUS VOYAGE opened at Proteus Gowanus. This gallery installation presents photographs, artifacts, underwater video and scientific data collected during the public art event staged on the Gowanus Canal in July 2013.  It was on view in the Hall of the Gowanus, “a mini-museum and gallery of art, artifacts, maps, documents and books” dedicated to the history of the Gowanus Canal.
