Aquapolis public photogrammetry and hydrophone recording event at Little Bay Park
Aquapolis is an immersive VR environment that examines the transformation of New York Harbor over 500 years, from a biodiverse maze of marshlands, reefs, and estuaries to the complex urban waterways of 21st-century New York City. Visitors become the water of the harbor itself, flowing through time as currents and tides. Join us for a free, open-to-the-public sound recording and photogrammetry event at Little Bay Park in Bayside, the first of three sessions at Queens waterfront sites. Participants will join the project team for a guided shoreline walk and learn the basics of field recording, hydrophone use, and mobile photogrammetry. You'll record the underwater acoustics of the surf and create 3D scans of beach flora, fauna, shells, driftwood, seaweed, and human-made objects. These recordings and scans will become part of Virtual Aquapolis. The models will be placed into its underwater VR landscapes, and the field recordings will shape its soundscape. Come co-create with us and help foster environmental awareness and shared stewardship of our coastal spaces.
